Alpine and chalet circuits
Starting point: Maiskogelalm right next to the Maiskogel cable car mountain station. A gravel road on flat terrain takes you to Unterbergalm (approx. 30 min). After a short rest, a 20 minutes’ walk takes you up a gentle slope along a forest path to the Glocknerblick chalet. From the sun terrace you get an impressive view of the Großglockner (3798m) and the highest glaciers of the Hohe Tauern. From the Glocknerblick chalet you walk downhill on a gentle slope back to your starting point, the Maiskogelalm. Then you make your way back to the valley either on foot or by the Maiskogel cable car.
Hike across the Schaufelberg
The hike starts at the Hauptschule (school building) in Kaprun. First you walk along the road past two farms, Jausenstation Unteraigen (snacks available) and Oberaigen. When you get to the Plattengut, another farm, you can either take the paved path (marker no 13) to the next farm, Jausenstation Stangerbauer, or along a path marked no 1 to Jausenstation Weissensteinalm. From Stangerbauer’s you can either continue along gravel road no 3 or along mountain path no 1 to the Maiskogelalm with the Maiskogel cable car which you can use to return to the valley.
Klammsee/Glocknerblick Hike
The hike starts on the parking area of the Maiskogel cable car station. Path no 17 takes you past the Klammsee, a little lake. When you get to the fork, follow path no 17a which leads you uphill to Jausenstation Glocknerblick. After a relaxing stop it is only a 20 minutes’ walk to the mountain station of the Maiskogel cable car which takes you back to Kaprun.
Alexander Enziger path
Hike from Maiskogel to Kitzsteinhorn
From the Maiskogel cable car mountain station the path leads past Jausenstation Glocknerblick. Then path no 5 takes you along the ridge to the cirque below Tristkogel. Walking along green pastures you now walk through the cirque called Grubalmkar, towards a mountain restaurant, the Krefelder Hütte. A 30 minutes’ walk takes you to the Alpincenter from where you can get back to the valley by cable car. This hike is one of the most beautiful in the Hohe Tauern.
Hike from Maiskogel to Hummersdorft
Take the Maiskogel cable car to the mountain station. From there path no 25 takes you to the Unterbergalm in less than half an hour. There is a wonderful view down to the valley, the Dietersbachtal, and the Große Arche, a mountain. You pass a traditional alp and turn into path no 14. After a while the path bifurcates again. You follow path no 14b and get to Jausenstation Dietlbauer in the valley. A traditional meal on the farm will provide you with the necessary stamina for your walk back to Kaprun along the Salzach river. You may also want to ride back on the Pinzgau railway, a real tourist attraction, and go as far as the station of Fürth/Kaprun.
Hike from Maiskogel to Niedernsill
Take the Maiskogel cable car to the mountain station. Follow path no 25 to Unterbergalm. Path no 14 a takes you gently downhill along the Dietersbach river. Turn left into path no 7 which takes you downhill to Niedernsill. This hiking path offers splendid views of the upper Pinzgau valley. We recommend you to take the Pinzgau railway to get back to Kaprun. A 15 minutes’ walk from the station at Fürth/Kaprun takes you back to Kaprun.
High mountain hike Hohe Arche
Take the Maiskogel cable car to the mountain station. Walk past the Unterberalm up into the valley called Dietersbachtal. There is a wonderful view of the Große Arche (2452 m). Good hiking boots and weatherproof clothing are imperative for this hike.
